Top Blog and RSS Directories

I know many of my readers are unfamiliar with link building, so let me 'splain a few quick things to help clarify the what, why, and how.

Basically, one good way to expand your reach and readership is to get your blog out there!  Blog and RSS directories are simply a credible listing of sites that they choose to display so that there visitors can conveniently find great content, organized by their category of interest.

This is beneficial in two ways. First and primary reason being exposure and potential traffic generation from someone interested in your blog topic, and the second being the quality links that are being built from respected and well ranking sites-which are linking back to yours.

The search engines weigh a calculation of many unknown variables, but one thing we do know, is that one of the core factors in ranking websites is the links that endorse it, which essentially acts as votes of popularity and credibility.

There are TONS of directories both free and paid, and some extremely expensive, for such a seemingly trivial listing.

There are sites with more authority and respect from the search engines, and their are ones with much less, and even some which are shunned altogether.

One thing is for sure, there will ALWAYS be power in high quality links.

So in short... You build links for Traffic and Link-juice folks. (link juice essentially means, more traffic longterm because the authority and respectability you are building into your site)

Now, if you don't know about RSS, or what IT's uses are, i suggest you go read a couple of my articles on the subject, which should be listed at the bottom of this post to catch up to speed.

But RSS directories, are essentially the same in their benefits, but are different than Blog directories-which you submit the plain URL of your website. RSS directories require you to submit your RSS feed. This is generally already created automatically by your CMS, and certainly if you are using wordpress.

The default feed is usually either http://yoursite.com/feed    or   http://yoursite.com/feed/rss

The purpose of submitting these your RSS feed to THESE directories is that for the SAME benefit, although works a little differently.

Essentially you are submitting to RSS directories to for traffic and link-juice, as you just learned, but the key distinction is that RSS is basically a shipping container to send and receive content across the web.

The page for an RSS feed looks like a page full of code... Because it is a page full of code. Other services like aggregators and readers will translate that code and make it look like a standard page with readable text and links.

RSS= Real Simple Syndication

Their are tons of and tons and tons and YES... TONS of sites that simply PULL feeds in to deliver relevent topical content to their visitors, and RSS is a the best way to do that.

News sites, niche topics, authority/hub sites... All can potentially end up promoting YOUR content to THEIR audience.

The way you get there though...?

The wide web of RSS directories. That's right, distributing your main feed AND the other pages that generate new content and links such as category and subcategory pages, your article directory author pages, social bookmark pages, can essentially broaden and deepen the reach that your blog and your content have.

Using appropriate keywords is a must, so that the tagging and targeting are most effective.

Although, you may not receive TONS of traffic initially, you will receive SOME. It's more of a long-term kind of benefit that you are investing into your blog. The added links that are created, increase the value of your site in the search engines, and that means more of your content will get indexed faster, and eventually rank higher.

NOW. That was quite a bit of info concisely condensed to cram into your cranium. It may take another go to get it, so if you are not fully clear, go and re-read this a time or two more. This will save you from having "vague" info sort of half understood, which you'll s0on forget, and then have to relearn again later.

So. With all that out of the way, if you've been following me for any length of time you know that i like to make things actionable and complete lessons with exercises. After all, this is how you'll REALLY learn the stuff anyway.

The bad news, it may take a little bit of pretty boring work. The good news... I've done most of it for you already.

As i mentioned earlier, there are TONS of blog and RSS directories... There are also TONS of massive lists floating around the internet which will contain loads of outdated or "do all the work and then find out you gotta pay a fee to submit it," or just plain don't work.

So to get you on your way, and get you used to the process of doing this, i've made it as simple as possible for you.

I've condensed a short and sweet list of all the Top Blog and RSS Directories.

All of THIS LIST is up to date. All of these work, as i have submitted to these personally, and all offer free submission.

They're mixed together so just be sure to watch out to make sure you are submitting the FEEDs when they ask for Feed URL, and just the plain site URL http://yoursite.com when it asks for that.

If you want to recommend another one that you like, and that is still around, go ahead and leave your comments and suggestions.
