Music Business Models
There are many music business models to choose from to develop your full potential. The first thing to understand is that their may be many attempts and revisions or pivots of the business model as the vision for your business evolves and expands and you create new revenue streams.
The goal is to find the right model that works for you and that renews your passion and your inspiration in the business.
Regardless of the business model, it will come down to creating the purpose, vision, desires, mission, goals, projects and tasks down on the runway.
From there it's all about implementation. Execution.
The point is to take the music business model down to the core focus activities and the core systems and processes for operations. That's where the impact points are for growing your music business. These are the activities that move the needle forward on your career.
They are turned into your daily dials-which form the growth engine of your business.
Every music business is unique, but there are several models for an independent artist to utilize to start from and build, automate, optimize, scale and master their music business.
Modern Musicians create their own business model. Which is a custom fit combination of traffic and brand and business growth strategies, income streams, products and services, offers, partners/sponsorship, and more.
They are the leaders and the CEO’s of their content business. At the end of the day what you do is create content to develop your craft and share that with your audience in order to grow your brand and business.
Modern Musicianship begins with realistic situational assessment and diagnostic as well as defining your blueprints. This includes your Music Business Model starting from the Music Business Model Canvas.
The first is the All Digital Music Business Model
It leverages all digital revenue streams from streaming, youtube, licensing and publishing, and uses music business automation to create passive income streams as well as build your fanbase and audience direct to fan.
Second is the Partnerships Music Business Model
This can be an all digital base or live shows and touring, but it’s best done when you already have products created and are able to bring people on board your movement. This is the best way to generate traffic and also the best way to generate sales in the short term. Partnerships is something I recommend just about every music business owner because it is the ultimate leverage that you can apply to your growth. You know people who have the audience you want to reach with your music, so partnerships are one of the best ways to get your music and message out there in a bigger way.
Third is the Virtual Shows Music Business Model
This can include virtual shows like through virtual concert platforms as well as livestreaming services and is a model that shows a lot of promise now and in the future, long after covid.
Fourth is the album/product launch Music Business Model
This can include a touring or live performing campaign of some sort as the base of the model. This has to be planned for in order to find success with launching the album to grow the brand and the business.
Fifth is the singer/songwriter model
This is where you work either as your own publisher ideally or with a publisher to get your songs placed in film and tv opportunities and earn sync fees and royalties. This can be tremendously lucrative if you work at it like a modern musician. With a plan, with a goal, and with a strategy!
Sixth, the Crowdfunding Music Business Model
Crowdfunding is one of the newest Music Business Models to emerge over the years. It is a proven way to generate audiences full of hungry buyers
Seventh is the Subscription Music Business Model
It is perhaps the best direct to fan business model of all because you are selling digital memberships, to give them access to exclusive content like new songs or new videos. You have to pour on the value to get this type of revenue stream to work for you, but will be well worth it when it does.
