YOU Are The Best New Artist
The best new artist is not easily quantified. "Best new artist" is a generic phrase for a category at the grammy awards... While this phrase is almost synonymous with the the award, who's really to say who the best new artist is.
However, in this day and age I propose the best new artist is something fundamentally different than the award presented at the Grammys.
The when it all comes down to it, our society has evolved into one that is instantly and globally connected. Music, and the new music business, has changed forever. This is not a discussion directly related to the status of the music industry… Rather, it is a snapshot into the future for music makers, songwriters, and musicians.
We are not talking about ad based subscription services, cloud music libraries, or streaming independent music models… What is important for US, the music makers, is making music.

While this quick post cannot go in depth into those tools and techniques and training, it is a quick post to examine and express that I believe the best new artist, and the class of music maker that succeeds today, is the one who who masters his craft AND his business. There no longer a can be a separation between the two - for an independent artists who wants to do what he loves, when how he loves to do it, AND stay in control of his business, his finances, and his life.
The first step, is always, determining clear goals and objectives. Working our way down from what it is we want, we can identify the skills, the knowledge, and the areas of management we will need to hone and develop to get to where we want to go.
